The New Mexico Public Education Department has issued new guidance for handling threats that originate on social media. Recently, schools across the nation have seen a surge in social media threats—many of which are hoaxes or pranks. Even when these threats are unfounded, they can still lead to widespread fear, the cancellation of events, and a strain on resources.
We urge everyone to be vigilant online and report any suspicious activity to authorities. Let's work together to keep our schools safe and protect our community's well-being.

What students do both inside and outside of the classroom impacts their educational success. When students participate in activities outside the classroom, such as clubs, sports or school events, they develop a sense of belonging and community. In an all-time first, SFPS’ summer program is serving more than 5,000 SFPS students, Superintendent Hilario “Larry” Chavez said today, June 12th. “We’re reaching just under 50 percent of the district’s enrollment through free summer programming, work-based learning opportunities, structured literacy and summer athletic conditioning,” he said. “This is a remarkable milestone.
“The response from parents and students has been astounding. It’s exciting to once again offer a multitude of opportunities for students to stay engaged with their learning while having fun!” said Superintendent Chavez.

The Santa Fe High School (SFHS) Band will be sporting new band uniforms within the next year. The new uniforms are being purchased with $164,000 in federal ESSER funds, which are set to expire in September.
"It's wonderful to have a little pot of remaining ESSER funding to provide this important need and SFPS Board of Education priority. We look forward to seeing the SFHS Band perform in their new attire at their home stadium and at other venues far and wide," said Superintendent Hilario "Larry" Chavez.
In making its request to the New Mexico Public Education Department to use ESSER funding to purchase the band uniforms, SFPS said, "Band performances help reignite our schools as centers of our community and culture, and in turn will boost school attendance. Furthermore, music performances are part of culturally relevant instruction and practice."
